Economic Empowerment

Economic empowerment is a key program area of Action for Disadvantaged People aimed at improving the financial stability of vulnerable households, especially caregivers of children with heart diseases and other disadvantaged families.

The program focuses on reducing poverty by strengthening income generation, skills development, savings culture, and access to livelihood opportunities.

Program Goal
To improve household income and economic resilience among vulnerable families so they can sustainably support children’s health, education, nutrition, and wellbeing.

Key Economic Empowerment Components

1. Vocational Skills Training

Caregivers and youth are trained in practical skills to enable self-employment.

Examples include:

  • Tailoring and fashion design
  • Hairdressing and beauty services
  • Carpentry and construction skills
  • Soap and detergent making
  • Catering and bakery skills

2. Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA)

Community savings groups help families build financial discipline and access small loans.

 

Activities include:

  • Formation of savings groups
  • Financial literacy training
  • Group savings mobilization
  • Small loan access for business growth

3. Small Business Support

Beneficiaries are supported to start or expand income-generating activities.

 

Support include:

  • Startup capital (seed funding)
  • Business mentoring
  • Market linkages
  • Business planning training

4. Agricultural & Food Security Projects

Households are supported to improve food production and nutrition.

 

Activities include:

  • Kitchen garden establishment
  • Poultry and small livestock projects
  • Crop farming training
  • Climate-smart agriculture practices

5. Financial Literacy Training
Families are trained to manage income and expenses effectively.

1. Women Empowerment

Action for Disadvantaged People (ACDIPE) is a non-profit organization that works with rural women groups in Uganda. ACDIPE aims at improving the livelihoods of the rural marginalized women and their children through food security and environment, health, economic empowerment, human rights and HIV/AIDS.

Family Economic Empowerment Programme

 To ensure parents do not fall back into poverty after s urgery.

 Micro-lending / revolving loan schemes for mothers.

  • Village Savings Groups for caregivers

  • Linking families to fish farming, poultry,or Agriculture programmes.
